Friday's session

Samantha and I got together and thought of any last ideas for our advertisement and because the internet wasn't working at school for us to look at images for inspiration, we decided the do a few sketches of it instead.

We both agreed to have something along the lines of "Edie's Back" in the centre to get people's attention however we came up with different designs as to what should surround it.

Samantha thought of having four squares around it and in each one have herself as Edie, possibly differently styled, all looking at the name.

Then I remembered a scene from "Chicago" where Renee Zellweger playing Roxie climbs literally on her name and I thought that would be a great way to emphasise our title; having Samantha positioned all along it.

It would be bold and glamorous but perhaps to ambitious as we would have to take pictures of Samantha posing in a particular way then having to attach it to the title somehow.

More ideas

I've just been watching the British Drama "Skins" and came across the actress
Kaya Scodelario who plays the role of "Effy". In this episode Effy shows signs of being mentally ill but goes on partying and smoking regardless. Shes a very beautiful girl aswell and I immediately felt she was similar to Edie Sedgewick; just a younger, more modernised version.

I went on google afterwards and found some modelling pictures of Scoderlario which really captures her beauty and dark, troubling nature. Perhaps we can get Samantha to model one of these for our advertisement because I absolutely love her style.

Ideas for our Magazine Advertisment

As Samantha is the one in possession of any photos of her as Edie Sedgwick and with Jack (Dylan), I'm having to make do with looking at pictures of Edie Sedgwick to get as many ideas together oRemove formatting from selectionn how we can portray Samantha on our advertisement.

A simple image?-Samantha can be alone, just modelling as Sedgwick. Like these images of
Edie herself:

Or in a crowd?- Shows her popularity and men's desire for her

Modernising it?

I've also found Agyness Deyn newadays as the equivalent to Edie Sedgewick in the sense of her slim figure, modelling career and style.

Perhaps we could modernise Samantha's style to fit with our times; but obviously keeping some aspects to illustrate she is still acting as Edie Sedgewick. Here's a few images that inspired me:

Here are some quotes I created aswell that we could use on our advertisement to sum up our music video:

"Edie brought the creativity and beauty, while Gary translated it. Perfect."

"The new dynamic-duo of the fashion industry may be Andy Warhol and Edie but for the music, definately Gary Roberts. A star is born."

Research of Magazine Advertisement

Last week, sir gave us three magazine advertisements to analyse in detail to get any kind of ideas for our own advertisement when we come to creating it.

I had two thoughts when I looked at them;

1) Did they appeal to me?
2)If so, how? If not, why not?

There's a similar pattern with all three advertisments; which are that overall they are very simple with colour (especially with their background colours) however they have one stand out complex design which must have some significance to their music. It's appealing because it's different however I wouldn't say it's eye catching because of it's simple colouring.

I like how they are all colour coordinated however and have one huge text of their band which will make people automatically look to see what it is about however the rest of the text if fairly small, especially Massive Attack, and therefore off putting and perhaps difficult to read.

Overall, I do not believe any of the advertisements appeal to me because of it's lack of colour, the size of the detailed text and complex graphics that have little meaning to me.

completed music video :)

Today Samantha and I finished editing our video!!!! It wasn't as difficult as I thought it to be but it did get quite frustrating at times; especially when it came to getting the lip syncing in time.

We spent most of the lesson just importing a small clip from the coffee shop scene and adding the newspaper article at the end to explain what happened to Edie after her drug abuse. We didn't like how it zoomed in because the heading was cut off and wouldn't be entirely focused on for that long but hopefully it still gives a sad effect.

Sir approved and so here it is:

Nearly there =D

I think one more session and Samantha and I should have completed our music video!!! Today we added a few more clips of Edie shopping and changing some of the background colours to show the contrast between filming Edie and what she does in her personal time. We also showed sir what we mostly had which he really liked but asked us to add some more lip syncing of Dylan near the end.

We want to make the last minute of the video or so of Edie in slow motion, which really goes with the instrumental and makes it more sad as it's ending. We thought of adding a real newspaper article from the 60's explaining Edie's death to give it more of an emotional impact and replacing a picture of the real Edie with Samantha; we've chosen this one to use:

Samantha edited the picture on http://www.picnik.com/ and heres the final design

We also want our last clip of a happy edie, probably smiling directly into the camera, in slow motion and slowing fading out in white.
